In 1980 he served as Assistant Director of Aviation for the City of Lubbock where he was responsible for the administration, leasing, property management and industrial development of the Lubbock International Airport.

from 1985 to 1993 he was President and CEO of Southwest Commercial Management Company and Centerstone Management Company in Lubbock and San Angelo, Texas.  During this time he served as a consultant to numerous financial institutions, life insurance companies and private investors regarding their commercial real estate investments.

In addition, he served as the Broker for Lubbock Development Inc. prior to accepting a position as Vice President of Wilkerson Properties from 1999 to 2007.

In 2007, he focused his energy and experience in becoming President/Owner of Askins & Associates, Inc. He is among a few commercial professionals specializing in 1031 exchange of oil and gas properties into commercial real estate in Lubbock County.
 

Dewayne Askins has been involved in the brokerage, leasing, and management of over 100,000,000 square feet of office, retail, industrial and land development.  He has managed 5,000 apartment units in the state of Texas valued a over one billion dollars.

Dewayne currently serves on the Lubbock Reese Redevelopment Authority Board of Directors. He is a real estate chair committee member for LRRA.

He married his wife Tana on June 28, 1980. Dewayne and Tana have two married daughter's Dr. Trista Askins Bailey of Abilene, Texas and Mrs. Danya Askins Weinheimer of Austin, Texas.

Dewayne and his family have been long time members of First Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas. Dewayne was ordained as a Deacon on January 10, 1995.

He has served as a lecturer at Texas Tech University and Angelo State University in the College of Business Administration in the area of real estate.
